Fill my Melbourne Cup right up

The Melbourne Cup, alongside the other races held in and around the city, is a long-standing tradition within the social calendar so it would have simply been rude to not attend. Despite the rain, forecasts predicted 70-80% chance of precipitation and they were 100% correct, it was an all round great experience.

Flemington Races hosts the Melbourne Cup, Derby Day, Oaks Day, and Stakes Day every year as part of the Spring Racing Carnival.

All of which are a great reason to dress up and sport an amazing hat.

Trains from the city are put on especially for the event which makes it the easiest option for travelling to the Spring Racing Carnival. Despite the rain and a forty minutes train ride from the CBD (Flinders Street Station) to Flemington Race Course, the only down sides to this event, it was well worth the ticket price to experience this staple of the social season here in Melbourne. I'm not saying it's a big one but Victoria have made it a Public Holiday. Not that it takes a lot to pass a Public Holiday in Australia. Only joking...!

With champagne(ish) in hand, a break in the weather, and some good company, the races began! With a few small bets placed (and unfortunately only one win), the excitement of the races was all consuming and even I got swept up in the cheering. Anyone who knows me know that any sport is not my thing! But after this experience, I would definitely be ready to head to another race course and maybe even place a bet or two myself.

Until the next time!

Chloe :)
